Fall of Artica: a Dystopian Game for Change

FoA Game:

An Artist-in-School Community Project

This multiple wards-winning PhD thesis project examines how in-person, play-based learning could help engage a value-pluralistic community in collective inquiry and crtical making. The game builds on discoveries in the field of Knowledge Media Design and New Media Arts practices; over 6 years, through numerous co-design meetings and test play sessions, the FoA Game engages more than 200 players at K-12 and undergraduates levels in role-playing and negotiation across three value tensions of contemporary public discourse: safty & freedom; now & future; culture & utility. The goal was to engage the citizens in multural understanding, collaboration, and knowledge co-creation through community-based inquiry and artivism.
